What are the ds.store files in the comp folder used for?

They are not doing anything. You can delete them.

.DS_Store (Desktop Services Store) is a proprietary format hidden file created by Apple Mac OS X to store custom attributes of a folder such as the position of icons or the choice of a background image.

I use Mac OS X, it create this hidden file.
