My client wishes to upgrade from their prior version (1.3.11) to the current version. How complicated is that process anhd is it described somewhere? Documentation?

normally upgrade not cause problems, you can simply install new version from Joomla installer.
Anyway before upgrade:
- Read here: http://docs.easy-profile.com/index.php/article/upgrade-140 (I think you do not do nothing)
- Read here: http://docs.easy-profile.com/index.php/article/upgrade-1x-2x (check overrides)
- Make Backup (always recommended, but I think you will not have any problems
