I have a custom field in which I have selected Yes for Visible on Profile but have set the Visibility field to an ACL group which the user is not a member of. I thought that this would mean that administrative staff in the ACL would see the field in the user's profile, but not the user, allowing us to have a "Private" administrator only comments field which the admins could easily view via the user list feature and clicking on a user to see the profile entries.

However, when I log in as the user, that field is visible on their profile even though they are NOT a member of that ACL group.

Am I misunderstanding the way this feature is supposed to work, or is there a bug?

Can you clarify the issue about username, when set to visible on profile it doesn't show. Having gone to all the effort on my other support request to get the imported username sorted, it would be somewhat useful to display it up front on profile screen. If it is a big issue, don't waste any effort, it is just nice to have, but won't be a big issue if it can't be shown.

hi,
username is not visible because it become hidden, due to configuration "login type" set to "email".

but username is still good for login
Yes, this to not break logins. When a user register an account it does not see username, because it is hidden. it is useful to make faster registration.

Of course, I understand that this behavior is not clear for administrators, they see in backend username still active (and this is necessary because Joomla always require username field). So in the future we will improve UX.

Thanks for your comments, help us to develop something better ;)
