I saw a discussion on this before. It's about the registration mails that Joomla! sends out when a user registers. In my case also with admin approval step.
I'm using the login-type: E-mail (set this in the Easy Profile Configuration).
But....

The first mail says
username: b115ad09bd5ede103f035a47fd8a36bf
The second and final mail after approval says:
username: Firstname

In both cases it doesn't show the e-mail as username.
But the e-mail does work if I use it to login.

about one week!
if you need fix now you can backup the file /components/com_users/models/registration.php and edit with this:

at line 101 replace this
$data['username'],
with
$data['email'],

at line 164 replace this
$data['username']
with
$data['email']

at line 416 replace this
$data['username'],
with
$data['email'],

at line 428 replace this
$data['username']
with
$data['email']

at line 453 replace this
$data['username'],
with
$data['email'],

at line 465 replace this
$data['username']
with
$data['email']

Attention: registration.php is a Joomla core file. BACKUP before edit. When we will release the new version you can restore the original file.
