Is there a way to protect my profiles from being mined?

Often people create code so that they can easily obtain all of the profile information for all the users on a site and then place it on their own site or create a contact list at no cost. I want to prevent this from happening.

Hi,
unfortunately all public content is exposed to all, so the way to protect your profile is to hide fields for public users.

There are two ways to manage it:
1) Privacy
You can enable the privacy for each field, so the owner of profile can choose that want to share. In this site you can choose privacy for each field if you want to keep your informations private.

2) Visibility permissions
For each field you can set the Visibility permissions, for example on this site your email address is visible only for the owner and Admins, see screenshot
