A third time sticking to the docs was helpfull. I use the free "questions" (please delete this name if i should not write it) with their own profile page with number of created questions (based on standard profile), but there did not work avatars output from the profile, gravatars only.
As i use an easy profile and did not want to produce a lot of different avatars - i decided to fix output from the profile joomla.
solution that worked for me, as in docs:
