Hi,

I am installing your Social Connect feature and have a question. If someone clicks on the "Login with Facebook" button on the login page and they already have an account on my site, then the attached screen appears.

To connect the Facebook account to their existing account, they enter their email address and password in the lower section of this screen. That links the accounts, which works well.

However, they can also enter something that looks like an email address in the top section (Fill in your details) and a new account is created linked to their Facebook account, but the account is created with the email address they entered. This email address does not need to exist, so you can end up with an account linked to a valid Facebook account, but their email account against the user does not exist, so you cannot contact them.

Is this by design, is this perhaps a bug, or have I configured something incorrectly?

Regards,
Steve.

Hi,
this is a behavior of Social Connect Plugin. What you say actually it makes sense, the best way is to add a option to allow/disallow "link account by specify email address" or something to activate account with confirm email.

We will add this to our feature request.

Why this choice?
the purpose of this plugin is to make registration fast and easy, and to have increment of users registration. The identity of user is already verified by social provider (real user or fake user).
Keep in mind that Joomla allow to edit email address after registration then email is not certain; for example to avoid this you can use some plugin like http://extensions.joomla.org/extension/email-activation, Easy Profile extends Joomla user management (not replace) so all Joomla users plugins will works also with Easy Profile.
